Description

DENDROLOGY

1985 Tokai LS-50 Plain Top Honeyburst w/Reborn hardshell case  a $300+ value.

This guitar is exquisite. Two-piece center-seamed top; often the LS-50s were 3-piece tops so this one is a particularly nice example.

For a ‘clean’ plain top (no flecks, etc.) it’s probably one of the nicest you’ll see. Broad grain, a really nice amber/honey faded burst type of finish.

Made in Japan by the masters at Tokai, the dish on the top carve on this guitar is pretty extreme. Has what could be described as a ‘late-’59’ neck profile, not quite a slim ’60s. This statement borders on nonsense because of the nature of the hand-carved necks of the era, but should give you an idea.

All original. It was probably in a case under a bed for a long time; it has that look about it.

Guitar is almost mint. It is absurdly clean and beautiful. A few tiny clearcoat and surface scratches on the back, but that’s about it. A few small finish chips on the headstock corners. Not bad for a 30+ year old guitar!

MEASUREMENTS

1st fret: .845″
12th fret: .929″

Weight: 8.56 lbs / 3.9kg

INCLUDED

Includes a Tokai Les Paul Reborn case, black and green style (these are usually seen going for $300-$400 by themselves). Case is used, has what appears to be marker on a few small spots, presumably from someone trying to color it back to black? Rather clean overall, though.
