DENDROLOGY

2007 Gibson Les Paul Classic Antique Guitar of the Week #33 – all mahogany, satin vintage sunburst, 1 of 400!

If you are looking for a lighter LP, this is a great choice! It’s very resonant acoustically. Excellent, cutting blues tone. Besides being 1 of only 400 produced, this guitar is also all-mahogany, has a gorgeous satin finish, and it has the Americana ’40s Gibson script for the headstock logo…I think this was found mainly on banjos and acoustics around the ’40s.

I’ve upgraded the neck pickup from a ’57 Classic to a ’57 Classic Plus which matches what’s in the bridge. Bridge is black, neck is zebra. I don’t have the original neck pickup; it didn’t come with the guitar. I covered the pickups in aged nickel covers.

A lot of money has gone into this guitar recently. Besides the pickup upgrade and nickel covers, I’ve installed nickel ABR-1 conversion posts, an aged nickel ABR-1 bridge, aged nickel GOTOH lightweight aluminum tailpiece, aged nickel studs, and I’ve aged the tuners.

**The following original chrome hardware is included: Nashville bridge, posts, tailpiece, and studs. The original tuners were aged, so I do not have an additional set.

There are a handful of scratches and dings (see the photos) and some worming and scratches on the back, none through the finish; nothing major. Guitar is clean and cared for and in very good shape overall.

One or two shots show the guitar with a plain truss rod cover (I put that on since it’s more vintage to me), but the guitar will come with the original ‘Classic’ TRC as seen in the headstock close-up.

Neck is nice and straight, has a medium/medium-low action which I like with this wood. Very minimal buzz on low strings played high up, but doesn’t come through the amp. You can dial this out if it bothers you. This guitar has a snappy response on the fretboard. You can actually get pretty twang-y with it (that’s not really my thing, but it’s very doable if you want that sound).
